To be eligible for the Sponsor-A-Student program, applicants must:

  • Be a Dysphagia Research Society member,
  • Be enrolled in a University degree program,
  • Complete the application form,
  • Submit an endorsement letter from your supervisor / academic staff member at your institution,
  • Submit a two-minute video clip about themselves and their dysphagia-related research or clinical interest.

What should be included in my application video clip?

  • Who are you?
  • What and where are you studying?
  • How will attendance at the DRS Annual Meeting benefit you professionally?
  • How will attendance at the DRS Annual Meeting benefit your future dysphagia patients and/or your home community?

How will applications be evaluated?

Scholarship selection is based equally on two criteria.

  1. Number of votes (50%): All donators ($5+) are able to make a vote for one of the student applications. The DRS encourages students to circulate their application to all their faculty, colleagues, family and friends and ask them to support their application.
  2. Appraisal of video application (50%): A scientific advisory committee from the Website, Communications and Public Relations Committee (WCPRC) will grade all videos on scientific / clinical rigor.

How do I know what student category I fall in?

There are two scholarship categories:

  • Clinical Student Scholarship – A student enrolled in a clinical program related to dysphagia, i.e. medicine, speech pathology, dietetics, etc.
  • Research Student Scholarship – A student enrolled in a graduate degree and conducting dysphagia-related research, i.e. medicine, speech pathology, dietetics, etc.
