Maggie-Lee Huckabee, PhD

Maggie-Lee Huckabee, PhD, practiced as a clinician for 13 years before the frustration of never knowing ‘the answers’ led her to an academic career. She is now Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders at The University of Canterbury and Director of the newly established Rose Centre for Stroke Recovery and Research at St Georges Medical Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand. In 2014, Prof Huckabee was awarded the University of Canterbury Innovation Medal for translating her research into the NZ Health System, resulting in substantial cost savings. Her research interests focus on the complexities of behaviorally-driven neural adaptation and biomechanical change leading to swallowing recovery.
